Announcements
Due to the increase in Covid-19 infections Governor Polis implemented new restriction preventing us from meeting in person until the February 3, 2021 meetingWe will continue to meet virtually using the same Zoom link below even after the Hybrid meetings begin. Look for an email from Kimberly Armitage detailing next steps.
--------------------
President Phil Gibson instituted a new process for those that join the meeting early. We were placed in smaller breakout rooms to allow for more intimate conversations than 31 zoom participants allows. The feedback was extremely positive so this will continue for the foreseeable future. Members are encouraged to sign on at Noon to get to know your fellow Rotarians in a more intimate setting. Thank you member David Dreibelbis for facilitating this new process!
--------------------
We shared some sad news last week about the passing of fellow Rotarian Richard Schutt. Click here to read Dick's obituary.
--------------------
President Phil Gibson recognized our Red Badge members that attended the meeting today. They were Adam Kehl and Lori Mackenzie. We look forward to meeting you in person!
--------------------
President Phil Gibson updated us on a Rotary President's call last night concerning our available grant monies. District 5450 has $89,000 in grant money available. The Rotary Club of Aurora has access to $3,000 in grants for international projects as well as $3,000 for local projects. Phil would like to pursue a grant for the Hope Center Integrated Center presented during last week's main program. Plans are underway for some matching funds to exceed the $5,000 goal mentioned by member Joel Kruschwitz last week.
If you have suggestions for the local grants, let President Phil or any board member know. Projects that may extend into President Elect Danielle Lammon's term and beyond. Currently under consideration is Blue Star Recyclers that gave a presentation to the club last year. This organization employs people on the autism spectrum to disassemble electronics for recycling purposes. Exactly the type of organization Rotarian's like to support.
--------------------
May 8, 2021 has been designated as a Day of Service for Rotary District 5450. All clubs are encouraged to plan a service activity around that date. The Rotary Club of Aurora is looking to partner with the other Rotary Clubs in the area for a large socially-distant project. A clean-up day is perfect. President Phil mentioned The Urban Farm. This organization works with troubled youth in the Denver area and would be a clean-up project. Please contact President Phil or President Elect Danielle Lammon with any ideas you may have for this collaborative day.
--------------------
Member Rick Richard informed the club that a proposed Foundation budget for the 21-22 Rotary year is under development. Expect an email from Kimberly Armitage soon with a date for the Foundation budget discussion.
--------------------
Rotary District 5450 has shared a couple of videos thanking healthcare workers. Click here for the one produced by the District and here for a separate one from The Rotary Club of Denver Southeast. Enjoy!
--------------------
Members Jana Clark and Karlyn Shorb gave a presentation about the shift COVID-19 has caused at Aurora Colorado Sister Cities International. They had to cancel all international activities so they started concentrating on local needs like Food Kitchen Collective. They provided over a 1000 bags of fresh food and 500 PPE kits. They supported 19 local business and 5 nonprofits along the Havana Improvement Corridor. They also talked about upcoming projects. This organization has multiple Sister Cities around the world. Contact Karlyn Shorb kshorb@aurora.gov for more information. Click here are go to 15:12 for their presentation.
