Red Badge was presented to Nubia Madrid this week by President Don Massey.   Welcome Nubia to the club!!
President Don Massey announced that he will be stepping down as President of the Aurora Rotary Club effective immediately.  Don and his family will be moving back to Houston for family and business reasons.  Don was sorry to have to step down so early in his term, but felt like this was the best thing for his family concerning the move back to Houston where his wife is from and her family is located.  The members would like to thank Don for his service to the club and wish him the best of luck in his new endeavors.
Our new President for the remainder of this year will be Phil Gibson.  He will take the reins and be administrating the next meeting on September 16th.  The new President-Elect will be Danielle Lammon.  Both Phil and Danielle are looking forward to supporting the club members in the coming year.
Guest from the Rangeview HS Interact Club Kia Jennings talked about her becoming President of their club and the book box building project she and her fellow Interact members are wanting to build for the community around Rangeview.  She put out a call to any members that are handy at building boxes to help her and the team get these setup.  She is also looking for books to put in the boxes.  Please reach out to Kia or member Linda Witulski to provide support or give donations.
Members Rick Richard and Danielle Lammon announced the annual elimination of Polio Drive.  Due to the efforts of Rotary and the Bill Gates Foundation Polio is now down to one strain and only existing in two countries, Pakistan and Afghanistan.  The Gates foundation will match donations 2 to 1 for anything Rotarians support.  Please get your forms from Rick or Danielle and support this effort to rid the world of Polio.

Paige Montgomery - Exchange Student
Paige Montgomery was our speaker this week.  President Don Massey introduced Paige as our outward bound to Switzerland exchange student. Incidentally, Paige graduated H.S. Valedictorian in 2019 and used her “gap” year for this adventure abroad.   Paige indicated that she loved Switzerland and all of the other exchange student friends she made along with her host families.   She was there from August of 2019 until March of 2020.
Paige talked about how her expectations of her visit were shaped by her background and experiences at home in Colorado, and that the reality of the culture, and even her host families, in Switzerland was not what she expected. She said the experience was very good and has changed her perspective of the world and other people.
She indicated that the schools in Switzerland do not have a lot of extracurricular activities for students abroad unless you are born in the area.  While in Switzerland, Paige played in a band and played French horn to show students what could be done with this apparently rare instrument in Switzerland. Paige also played hockey while she was there to get exercise and be a part of a group. She really liked going on excursions of different types with other exchange students from around the world and found these to be very memorable.  She also talked about her experiences with mass transit(buses and trains) and that the train system in Switzerland was amazing.  She showed many pictures of her host families, the area she was in between Zurich and Lucerne, her activities, and friends.  One piece she liked was that she stayed with the same 20 people in school for all of her classes and that this is normal for Swiss students.  She spoke German, but there are actually 4 languages spoken in Switzerland along with German; French, Italian, and Romansh.
President Don presented Paige with a challenge coin(virtually).  Thank you Paige for sharing your experience in Switzerland.
