This Week in Rotary
Dec. 18 was the last regular Club meeting for 2019. Club will be DARK for Dec. 25 & Jan. 1.
With Pres. Regina Edmondson facilitating, members enjoyed the beautiful decorations, great program by Louie Wright, and conducted quite a bit of business.
Regina also presented the new plaque for The Rendezvous. Pres. Elect Don Massey presented his slate of officers for his July 2020 - June 2021 term, and members approved it. New member Betty Gessesse(pictured) received her Red Badge (She's just a little bit excited!), and David Driebelbis reminded members of the upcoming Sat., Jan. 11th Shots for Tots event this Club hosts. (PLEASE SIGN UP TO VOLUNTEER!)
A wonderful and emotional moment occurred when Regina was able to present our wonderful wait staff with $500 as tip for her excellent service.
Members Tom Klein and Captain Sam LeMar would like to thank all the volunteers that helped with Salvation Army bell ringing this season. The success of the campaign would not have happened without everyone's effort.

Louis Wright - Aurora Citizen/Teacher & Former Denver Bronco
Louis Wright was our speaker this week. Louis Wright is a former cornerback who played his entire NFL career for the Denver Broncos for 12 seasons from 1975 to 1986. He was a five time Pro Bowler in 1977 to 1979, 1983 and 1985. Louis shared his story about growing up with a hard working father that expected his children to work hard as well. Your only to not have to work after school is if you were involved in sports or other extra curricular activities. Hence, Louis began playing football and running track!!
Wright was drafted by the Broncos with the 17th overall pick in 1975. He broke into the lineup quickly, starting 11 games as a rookie and intercepting 2 passes while also recovering a fumble.
1977 would be his breakout season as he intercepted 3 passes for 128 yards and a touchdown and helped lead the Broncos to Super Bowl XII. He was named a First-Team All-Pro by the Associated Press in both 1978 and 1979. During the '79 season, he returned a fumble 82 yards for a touchdown. In addition to his cover skills, Wright was also one of the best run supporting cornerbacks of his era. In his NFL career, he finished with 26 interceptions for 360 yards and 1 touchdown. He also recovered 11 fumbles and returned two for touchdowns. He was inducted to the Denver Broncos Ring of Fame in 1993.
Louis shared a couple of stories about linebacker Randy Gradishar and John Elway. Louis is now a coach and teacher at Gateway High School here in Aurora.
Thanks Louis for your time and telling us about your career and life growing up.
Next meeting on 1/8/2020.
Have a great Christmas and New Year. Be safe if traveling.
