Dr. Douglas is the Executive Director of Tri-County Health. The three counties are Adams, Arapahoe, and Douglas.
The vision for Tri-County Health is optimal health care across the lifespan of the populations served. The following were
definitions given by Dr. Douglas for Health Communities:
* Residents can get critical health and emergency information.
* Physical, emotional and mental health is a priority.
* People are supported when facing the challenges of their lives.
Public Health relates to the population versus medical, which is one person and the causes of death.
Preventable causes of death such as tobacco, obesity, and alcohol abuse are a focus. TCHD has 400 employees that work
in the following divisions:
- Health Nursing Division
- Nutrition Division
- Environmental Division
- Mental Health Division
- Epidemiology Division
Teen pregnancy is a detriment to a child's health. In recent years, teen pregnancy has been reduced 60%. Much of what TCHD
does is reach out to people to educate them on detrimental health factors.
Areas TCHD impacts our communities:
- Enforcement -inspection of restaurants.
- Epidemiology - strives to correct health hazards at their source.
- Emergency preparedness - brings resources and personnel to the effected area.
TCHD works on county appropriations of close to $10, 000,000 to serve a population of 1.5 million.
Thanks Dr. Douglas for time and sharing all of the information about Tri-County Health!
