You’ve probably seen the following guidelines before, but they’re important and worth repeating:

⦁ Wear a cloth mask that fully covers your mouth and nose.
⦁ Wear gloves when going outside and keep them on while outside.
⦁ Wash your hands or use hand sanitizer after each use of disposable gloves.
⦁ When returning home take off shoes and clothing leaving them by the door.
⦁ Wash your face and hands before touching anything in your home after going outside.
⦁ If using a cloth mask, wash it every day in hot soapy water and air dry.

Joel Kruschwitz - Presentation on possible international project - AIHWA

Member Joel Kruschwitz was our speaker this week.  He presented on the possibility of working with AIHWA as a club in partnership with the Rotary Club of Pagosa Springs.  We would be driving our own fundraising efforts along with Pagosa, which through Joel's aunt he was initially introduced to AIHWA.

AIHWA's mission is to improve the health of under-served Africans by providing integrated healthcare for body + mind + soul.

We do this through:

  • Hope Center: an integrated care facility providing primary care, eye care, and mental health counseling.

  • Our fight against the patient prisoner program: financial assistance for patients held in Nigerian hospitals because they cannot afford to pay their medical bills

  • Education: medical conferences and seminars for patients, community, and healthcare providers

  • Medical missions: bringing free integrated medical care to remote locations.

Located in Nigeria, Hope Center is their integrated single point-of-care facility — the first of its kind in Africa. Having their own facility makes it safer, simpler and more economical to provide quality care.

When completed, Hope Center will host:

  • A diagnostics and medical center
  • A pharmacy
  • An eye clinic

  • A mental health/counseling clinic

  • 20 guest rooms for short-term residents

Hope Center will also showcase wellness and healthy living through:

  • A full-functioning water factory

  • Gardens for herbs and organic vegetables

  • Sports/exercise areas

  • An on-site restaurant serving healthy food

Hope Center is located in Owerri, Nigeria. The central location lets AIHWA provide for the people of Imo State and is within a reasonable drive from the neighboring states of Anambra, Abia, Ebonyi, and Enugu.  Eventually, Hope Center will serve as a home-base for AIHWA medical missions.

Joel provided an excellent slide show that gave members some insight on what this organization is doing in Nigeria and ways we might be able to support this effort.  Please see link for details concerning the slides.

Below are additional details(press blue button) pertaining to AIHWA.  Please review and don't hesitate to ask Joel, Rob McGregor, or Don if you have questions about this outstanding opportunity for our club to support an international project.
