Guest Speaker Debbie Stafford - Aurora Mental Health Center
Due to the increase in Covid-19 infections Governor Polis implemented new restriction preventing us from meeting in person until the February 3, 2021 meetingWe will continue to meet virtually using the same Zoom link below even after the Hybrid meetings begin. Look for an email every Thursday from Kimberly Armitage asking for your lunch choice. Please RSVP with that choice as quickly as possible. With COVID restrictions, the restaurant needs ample time to order supplies. Please only attend in person if you are comfortable. Otherwise Zoom is the perfect alternative.
A special thank you goes out to David Dreibelbis and Josh Hultman for making the hybrid meetings seamless. We know how much work goes into this process and we really appreciate all you do!
President Phil Gibson presented member Lori MacKenzie with her blue badge. Virtually of course. She'll actually get it when next we meet. Congratulations Lori!! David Dreibelbis is her mentor who asked Lori to motivate Lori Banks to get her Blue Badge. The two were affectionately dubbed Blue Badge Lori and Red Badge Lori.
David Dreibelbis has been randomly placing attendees into breakout rooms until the meeting officially starts at 12:15. President Phil reminded us that we can change rooms if we wish. The feedback for this process has been overwhelming positive. Great idea from the board!
Member Linda Witulski reminded us about District 5450 training coming up...
Principled (Win/Win) Negotiation
Thursday, Feb. 4 | 6:30 to 7:30 pm MST VIA Zoom
In order to participate in Rotary District 5450's Day of Service on May 8, 2021, the Rotary Club of Aurora is looking to partner with the other Rotary Clubs in the area for service projects.
Currently on the list are a clean-up day for the Highline Canal as well as at The Urban Farm. This organization works with troubled youth in the Denver area.
New to the list is a partnership with member and District Governor Regina Edmondson to replicate the food bank opportunity her organization Second Chance Center created over MLK day.
The goal is to get 80% participation from the members of the Rotary Club of Aurora. These are three quality service opportunities that will be available some time in April. Please pick the one that speaks to you and sign up when the list comes out. This is why we are Rotarians, right?
Since March is a 5-Wednesday month, there is talk of a combination service project and social gathering. Possible help out at Blue Star Recyclers for a few hours, then meet at a local restaurant. Stay tuned for more details on the March 31st activity. Should be rewarding and fun.
Speaking of socials, member Kimberly Armitage is planning an event at the Stanley Market. How exciting is this? We're actually talking about getting together outside a meeting!
Member George Peck gave an update about the State of the Base. This is the time of year we would typically be gathering together to hear about the successes and plans of Buckley Air Force Base. Like everything else in this COVID era, thing will be different this year.
Since Buckley became a Space Force base, its name has changed to Buckley Garrison and the current Commander has been appointed Brigadier General. He does, however plan to produce a video State of the Base probably over Facebook on a date yet to be determined.
Member and District Governor Regina Edmondson reminded us that PETs registration is now open. All club Presidents, President-Elects and President-Nominees are expected to attend.
John Wolfkill informed us of some special programs coming up. Next we'll hear from Bruce Dalton, President and CEO of Visit Aurora. Member Bill Wiggins is going to share his life's journey with us and on February 10th, Marjorie Gannon. You won't want to miss any of these.
If you have ideas for future guest speakers, let John or Sheila Anthony know. If you have contact information, better yet.
