Announcements
Due to the increase in Covid-19 infections Governor Polis implemented new restriction preventing us from meeting in person until the February 3, 2021 meetingWe will continue to meet virtually using the same Zoom link below even after the Hybrid meetings begin. Look for an email from Kimberly Armitage detailing next steps.

Speaking of Zoom meetings, if you notice a fellow Rotarian that you haven't seen lately during our virtual meetings, please reach out to them and see if they are ok. You may be able to help them through Zoom challenges or just let them know they are missed. Personal connection is more important now than ever so let's look out for our fellow members.

President Phil Gibson presented members Nubia Madrid and Josh Hultman with their blue badges. Virtually of course. He'll actually give them out when next we meet. Congratulations Nubia and Josh!!
--------------------
Exchange Student Anne Starke gave us an update on life in Germany. It sounds a bit more restrictive than Colorado. Her school is online only and restaurants are closed. People are wearing masks like here and the vaccine is about on the same pace and planned distribution as are are experiencing. It's always nice to see Anne and hear what's happening in Germany.

May 8, 2021 has been designated as a Day of Service for Rotary District 5450. All clubs are encouraged to plan a service activity around that date. The Rotary Club of Aurora is looking to partner with the other Rotary Clubs in the area for a large socially-distant project. A clean-up day for the Highline Canal is the perfect activity. President Phil mentioned The Urban Farm. This organization works with troubled youth in the Denver area and would be a clean-up project.
District 5450 has an established relationship with the 9 Health fair organizers and there is a potential to volunteer with vaccination events as well as the normal Health Fair, whatever form that takes in these pandemic times.
Please contact President Phil or President Elect Danielle Lammon with any ideas you may have for this collaborative day.
--------------------
Also please remember...COLORADO WILDFIRE DISASTER RELIEF FUND: The Natural Disaster Response Committee is currently working with local Rotarians and contacts in Grand Lake and other effected areas to determine how best to distribute donated funds. The fires are still active, so it will take some time before needs assessments can be completed. Donations can be made online or you can mail a check to Rotary District 5450, Subject Line: Colorado Fires, 5103 Dvorak Circle, Frederick CO 80504. Click Here to learn more and see photos, or click here to watch a short video on the fires.

President Phil Gibson informed us that his nurse daughter and healthcare friends had a sever allergic reaction to their second dose of the COVID vaccine so please be aware when your time comes.
--------------------
Member Regina Edmondson gave an update on her organization that committed to supplying 1000 free meals in Aurora on MLK day. They ended up providing 1636 hot meals Monday in Aurora. It took over 100 volunteers because they even delivered meals to those that couldn’t come pick them up. All this took place at the Dayton Opportunity Center and her nonprofit Second Chance Center. Many Rotarians were involved in this critical service project.

Guest Speaker, Ryan Warner - Sr. Host Colorado Matters, Colorado Public Radio

Ryan gave the club a very interesting presentation on his job as Senior Host of Colorado Matters on Colorado Public Radio. Ryan is from California and was a Rotary Exchange Student who when to the French Alps. He have a glimpse into how he puts his non-political guests at ease so his audience gets the best version of the guest's story.
Ryan also told a little story about his interview with Cookie Lockhart, aka The Queen of Steamboat. Click here for that interview. He also discussed the state of misinformation today and suggested we all go to "About" section on the Poynter website here to see if the source is credible. I wish everyone would do this before posting anything!
Click here to listen to Ryan's presentation. He offered his email address if you have questions or comments. Just email rwarner@cpr.org.
