Bill Sparks was our speaker this week. He shared his experiences making homebrew and brought with him the grains and equipment used to make beer. Ensure you have all the brewing equipment and beer ingredients necessary to brew. You will need:
Fermenter and airlock
Mash tun
Boil pot
sparge pot
Spoon
thermometer
cleaner and sanitizer
Hydrometer
Wort Chiller (optional)
Bottling/Kegging equipment
There are four main ingredients in making beer: malt, hops, yeast, and water. Familiarize yourself with each ingredient and learn to use adjuncts and finings to expand your repertoire of recipes. Bill mentioned the key to good beer is clean equipment and high quality ingredients. He mentioned the Aurora home brew shop, The Brew Hut to learn more about home brewing, equipment, and ingredients.
Thanks Bill for all the information and a chance to try some of the different grains used in beer making.
