COVID19 Information

We care about the health and safety of our member and community. As we continue to monitor and learn more about the spread of the novel Coronavirus (COVID-19), we want to share some information with you. You’ve probably seen the following guidelines before, but they’re important and worth repeating:

Stay at home and do not travel.
If you need medical attention and it is a non-emergency, please call your doctor, do not attempt to travel to the emergency room.
If you need medication, please check with your local pharmacy. NOTE: Many of the larger drug chains will deliver without additional charge.

**IF YOU MUST LEAVE HOME:
⦁ Wear a cloth mask that fully covers your mouth and nose.
⦁ Wear gloves when going outside and keep them on while outside.
⦁ Wash your hands or use hand sanitizer after each use of disposable gloves.
⦁ When returning home take off shoes and clothing leaving them by the door.
⦁ Wash your face and hands before touching anything in your home after going outside.
⦁ If using a cloth mask, wash it every day in hot soapy water and air dry.

Book Drive- We are still collecting books for the Sharing Summer Stories. Set aside all of gently used books. Aurora Rotary is partnering with Aurora Public Schools and Cherry Creek Schools to provides books for elementary school students to read over the summer. If  you have books for a little older audience set those aside as well for student family members.

Kimberly Armitage - VP of Strategic Growth and Membership YMCA
Today’s Club lunch program was brought to us by
Kim Reed Armitage of the YMCA. Kim talked about the YMCA role and goals in the community, changes, and also gave an update on the construction of the new facility (Phase 1) near the Southlands Mall area at Wheatlands and Powhatan. Opening day is currently planned for April 15, 2021, Kim’s birthday.  This is particularly fitting since she has worked to make this project happen for 21-22 years.

Kim shared that TriCounty Health has just mandated masks for all outdoor areas where appropriate social distancing cannot be maintained, including pool areas outside the water, which may be a challenge for young lifeguards to enforce.

Kim’s YMCA presentation slides are below. Here are just a few additional bits of information she shared:
* The YMCA is considered “essential” during COVID and has continued to provide daycare and other services during this time.
* They work hard to practice social distancing with kids, which is an interesting exercise in creativity, including many lines drawn on floors and even fields.
* About 33% of previous daycare sites available for working parents will not open again after COVID.
* The YMCA is working with the public schools to utilize space and practice distancing with the kids, who are placed in groups of 10 and stay in those same groups.
* The YMCA, working with partner Food Bank of the Rockies plus volunteers from the Church of Latter Day Saints, has given away over 100,000 lbs of food in the last 12 weeks. The need is overwhelming.
* The YMCA also coordinates a weekly blood drive located at the Southlands Mall.
* The YMCA regulars serves, in different ways, 67,000 seniors and kids. They have over 1,600 volunteers 2,000 donors to help them do this.
* The YMCA has implemented Zoom classes (one example: Silver Sneakers), and they are such a hit that they will continue. This format is particularly popular with seniors and will be very helpful in winter weather.

Thanks Kimberly.   See link below for Kim's presentation documents.
