Penny Nisson with the Mizel Museum was our speaker today. Penny expressed her passion about The Holocaust and how it is a profound and difficult subject to cover but is the most gratifying part of her job. She gets to see genuine emotional connections made between survivors and students that may lead to increased adherence to the Golden Rule: Do unto others as you would have them do unto you. So what is the Mizel Museum? The Mizel Museum, an educational, nonprofit organization, is Denver’s only museum that addresses today’s social justice issues through the lens of Jewish history and values. We encourage people of all ages and backgrounds to celebrate diversity and equality and to combat discrimination and hatred. Our programs, events and exhibits address these and other social issues and encourage positive change in our communities. Their mission is dedicated to fostering cross-cultural understanding, combating racism and promoting social justice. We achieve our mission through educational programming, events and exhibits that connect universal Jewish values to the larger world. The Mizel Museum is part of the Mizel Institute that was founded by Larry Mizel. Penny described all the programs that the Mizel Museum does at their facility and in the community. Their focus of working with children and survivors to insure that Holocaust victims are not forgotten and history is not repeated. Penny feels like the commitment of the Mizel Museum and Rotary coincide due to the focus of helping others in the community. Where is the Mizel museum? The museum is located at 400 S. Kearney Street in Denver, and is open for visitors by appointment only. Please email us at details@mizelmuseum.org or call 720-785-7300 to schedule your visit. Penny would love to see us at the museum. Thanks Penny for your commitment and sharing information about the Mizel Museum. See link below for more information about Mizel Programs.
