Announcements

President-Elect Danielle Lammon gave a brief update about the accident President Phil Gibson had at home over the weekend. Phil was grilling when a fireball escaped and caught his shirt on fire. Phil has second degree burns on his face, neck and ears. He sent an email that Danielle read saying he is home and healing. Please keep Phil in your thoughts as he overcomes this obstacle.

President-Elect Danielle Lammon is still seeking volunteers for our Aurora Day of Giving 10/14. We officially need 4 more volunteers to fill our 25-person commitment. Please let Danielle know by Friday October 9th if you are interested and she will make sure there is room for you. October 24, 8:30am – 2:30pm. danielleshannonagency@gmail.com

Linda Witulski reminds us about the Book Box project currently under way by the Rangeview HS Interact Club.  The official book drive is scheduled for Rangeview High School this Saturday October 10, 11am-1pm. Those donating at the book drive will have a no-contact experience. Leave your books in the trunk and a volunteer will remove them for you.

Please remember, in order to get an accurate account of those attending the in-person meetings each week, please remember to sign in at the table where you pick up your badge.

Donna Beaman is working with her old club Denver LoDo, along with South Denver Rotary Club, Evergreen Rotary Club, Colorado Coalition for the Homeless and Returning Peace Corp Volunteers to help furnish 60 Veteran's apartments. A specific list of items required for residents to move in was presented at the meeting. That list has been added to the Rotary Club of Aurora website and Facebook page.

If you plan to donate large items like beds, couches, etc. contact Chalonie Craighead with the Colorado Coalition for the Homeless at ccraighead@coloradocoalition.org or 720-217-1247. She will arrange for pickup. Feel free to advertise this through your local NextDoor app and help the whole neighborhood clean out their garage!

The home will be on the Fitzsimmons campus at Montview and Peoria, and is called the Veterans Renaissance Apartments. Here is some more details about the building:

Please see Donna for ways to help. donnabeaman@msn.com or 970-402-9260.

Visitor Rick Crandall gave a brief presentation about the Colorado Freedom Memorial. Rick is working on turning the Memorial into a Circle of Honor. Recently added is the "Home's Embrace" that honors all American Service Member killed in the line of duty on foreign soil. There are eight countries represented with soil from these countries at the base of each granite tower. Next to complete the Circle is the future addition of the "Gold Star Families Memorial Monument." Fundraising efforts are underway and the 97 year-old Marine Veteran Hershel Woody Williams is coming to the groundbreaking next week. Future plans include a Visitor's center to help the many people that come to the Memorial. Click here to learn more. Aurora Rotary members donated $226 cash at the meeting. Feel free to donate to this worthy cause at the website here.

⦁ Wash your hands or use hand sanitizer after each use of disposable gloves.
⦁ When returning home take off shoes and clothing leaving them by the door.
